Now known as the Rochester-Utica State Recreation Area and the Shadebush Environmental Educational Center. A total of 85.15 acres were acquired by lease (66.52 acres) and easement (18.63 acres) in 1954. The site was acquired for Army use as a Nike battery. 37 structures were built on the site during the period 1955 through 1974. The 66.52 acre portion of the site remained under lease until 1974. The Government conveyed the easement portion of the site to the State of Michigan in June 1976. The entire 85.15 acres of the site became part of the Rochester-Utica State Recreation Area. The missile launch support area and barracks (3.96 acres) was conveyed to the Utica Community School District in 1983 by the State. | ||||||
